Listed Doors & Wooden Panelling – Intumescent Treatments

Under certain circumstances old wooden doors and panelling can be treated with an intumescent paint system to give a recognised standard of protection, for doors usually FD30. Then with the addition of other items to FD30(S).

The main criteria is that the items need to be structurally sound. In the case of doors, they need to be in sound condition with none of the mortice & tenon joints failed, the door needs to close into the door jam fully, the door must be all timber with no man-made “wood”.

If a listed doors joints have failed, it might be possible to remove the door to a local joinery shop, have them pull the door apart and rebuild the door to being square, then treating the door and refitting.
